still  always still

Words shift their meanings and significance in the face of different political, historical and social moments. The exhibition "still  always still" by artist Marilá Dardot, which was on display in this space from September 2022 to February 2023, presented individual works by the artist that raised questions about language and the ephemeral nature of the terms we create, which no longer adequately explain our present.

The Education Center, in its attempts to intensify discussion, created an educational activity entitled "Dictionary for the Next 200 Years." After a guided tour of the exhibit, participants were encouraged to write up a page that would contribute to a dictionary of meanings for the next 200 years. The meanings created there could give new interpretations to existing words or generate individual meanings for phrases and terms that were coined at MUPA. An activity that engaged participants in an experience of contemporary art, it prompted them to reflect on all the narratives constructed thus far, as the curatorial text pointed out. It established "a connection between word and action, affirming critically and poetically that establishing alternative uses for language is one way to avoid succumbing to the uninterrupted failure of the present and, hence, nourish other imaginaries for the future."

What will be the museum’s role over the next 200 years?

What will the museum hold, which stories will be told?

The Educational Center invites its public to think about these issues collectively, filling in the blanks of this dictionary full of new possibilities!
